I belong to a church of assigned goals, so I’ve decided to set some goals for other people to honor the end of 2016 and prepare us all for 2017:
- Read at least one book recommended by someone you disagree with.
- Try sushi. It really does deserve one more chance.
- Vocally oppose (Facebook doesn’t count) at least one terrible thing our president does or tries to do per month.
- Try to understand a scripture from someone else’s point of view.
- Take public transportation for one week straight.
- Fact check before you post.
- Don’t use the words “Donald Trump” unless absolutely unavoidably necessary.
- Take a moment every day to not be so hard on yourself.
- Go on at least one hike, scenic drive, or walk each month.
- Think of something better to ask newlyweds than “how’s married life?”
- Play a board game with someone you met this year.
- Spend your time like you spend your money. Or visa versa.
- Thank someone who never gets thanked.
- Learn the names of your city counselor and mayor. Vote in your municipal elections.
- Learn one new joke. A good one.
- Stand up to bullies. Even if they run the @POTUS Twitter account.
- Don’t fall in love with your own ideas, because then you will hate the world.
Great goals, Jeff. Thanks for the suggestions!
