Wait, Herod Antipas is pleased when his daughter dances before him? Super creepy. Why are there unclean swine in a story about a Jew named Jesus of Nazareth? Jesus walks on water but was gonna’ walk right past the apostles’ boat? What did Jesus think about giving money to an institution that really didn’t need money instead of giving it to those in need? All these questions are discussed in the late episode of The CES Podcast (for the rest of us).
Welcome to episode 8 of Rational Faiths’ newest podcat series, The CES Podcast (for the rest of us), with Bible scholar, Dr. Sheldon Greaves and his co-host, Michael Barker. Dr. Greaves and Mike Barker will be looking at this year’s seminary and institute curriculum, which covers the New Testament, and will be distilling a week’s worth of lessons and readings down to a half hour podcast. Episode 8 will cover Mark chapters 5-8
Please leave us feedback if you like what we are doing or if there is an area upon which we can improve.

are the transcripts of these posted anywhere? Thanks!
No. Just getting this out every week takes a TON of work. Speaking for myself only (and not Dr. Greaves) I spend at least two hours reading and studying in preparation for every episode so I don’t sound like a complete dork. Then each episode is around 30-45 minutes long which Dr. Greaves then has to edit down. I think it would be cool to do a transcript though.
What do you think of the series so far? We aren’t getting a ton of feedback yet.
As a newly called seminary teacher, I’m excited to hear some thoughts on these chapters and grateful that you’re right on my same schedule so it’s lessons to be prepared, not what I’ve just taught (we have a Facebook group for LDS seminary teachers with over 6000 members; I’ll share the link there so others can see it too. Since our school years all started on different dates people are teaching very different lessons any given time). But I’m not an audio learner and don’t really sit through podcasts, so I play it in the background and wish I could read it and pull out some thoughts, hence the question. Thanks for your work!
actually, would like some more background on Greaves and his LDS stance before sharing. Can you clarify? Also CES is currently called S&I, seminary and institute, for this age group.
Is it just me, or is Dr Greaves silent on this podcast? Leastways, he doesn’t appear to have recorded – long periods of silence…
