Every once in a while we encounter a statement or idea that stops us in our tracks and makes us re-think our path. In this episode I talk with Jerylin Pool who is a strong advocate for same sex marriage. She shares her experience at a recent Human Rights Campaign (HRC)during which she had her mind opened and her direction changed. The topic of teen suicide especially around LGBT youth is a troubling concept that must be dealt with because it is our reality and does not need to be.

Jerilyn, Thank you so much for being interviewed for the podcast. I always enjoy listening to your thoughtful and faithful perspectives.
Shifting paradigms is one of my favorite topics as I see it as being so vital for our growth. I think always being open to being compelled by that which deserves our greatest focus is so valuable, and this newest focus that you are taking on is very important. Thank you for inspiring me to think deeper about this issue, and I hope that no matter where we all are at in our faith journeys, we can remember those who are suffering and are in need of our help.
fyi Jerilynn et al. The Mormonsandgays.org website is now linked from LDS.org. If you go to the same sex attraction page you can find it in the footnotes.
It isn’t front and center, but you can at least now prove the site is church sponsored.
Also, I agree with you that preventing suicide should be our number 1 priority. However, don’t discount how working for marriage equality actually helps move the conversation forward in ways that also help our LGBT youth.
Last of all, check out the WalkWithYou videos. The Barkers have done us the favor of linking those videos at the Rational Faiths website. Look over in the right hand column for a green logo and click it!
Yes Daniel Parkinson if greater acceptance of SSM is achieved LGBT youth will feel less disoriented and alone, hopefully preventing negative permanent actions.
